She talked abit about NurSoc too so I hope youall know more or less what NurSoc is about? :) Anyway, NurSoc's main way of disseminating information and updating all batches of Nursing students about the upcoming events is via Yahoo Groups. A Yahoo Group has been set up for your batch and you should be receiving an invitation soon. Alternatively, you may click on THIS to join :) The group can also aid your class reps or anyone in making announcements so make sure you join! On top of the Yahoo Group, please also check the notice board at the entrance of NSL and continue to visit this blog for any updates! Thank you! :) Regards, Angie Goh Liaison Dept

UPDATES FOR MENTOR-MENTEE MEET-UP
Hi all! Some changes have been made to your Week 0 events! Please take note and spread the word to avoid any confusion! Mentor-Mentee Meet-up is no longer on 3rd August. It is now on 4th August, after Flag Day. Venue has been confirmed; meet at 1pm at the open space behind M10, which is near LT26 :) After some briefing there, we will all set off in our mentor-mentee pairs and OG groups for lunch. Travel around collecting money 3. Report back at LT29 by 1pm to return the tins (try to return earlier so you wont be late for the Mentor-Mentee Meet-up! start late = late lunch :P) 4. Report at 1pm at the open space behind M10 for Mentor-Mentee Meet-up 5. Lunch in your Mentor-Mentee pairs/OG groups 6. Free and easy :) And the schedule for 3rd August is now-1. NO MORE Mentor-Mentee Meet-up on this day! :P Hope this is clear enough! Any questions just leave a tag or email nusnursing@hotmail.com. See you all there on the 4th! :) Regards, Angie Goh Liaison Director

week 0 events
I hope all of you enjoyed Conventus III and had attended the Nursing Freshmen Orientation on 31 July 2009! If you did not attend the Orientation that day, please contact the school or your classmates (if you know any) and get a copy of your timetable etc. for yourself. In this post, there is 2 parts: 1. Recent FAQs received, 2. Week 0 events updates. PART ONE: FAQsThere are some questions that keep surfacing and, hence, I shall try to address them here: 1. In Year 1 Sem 1, all your core modules, tutorials & labs have already been pre-allocated to you at your maximum MC of 23 (if I'm not wrong). Therefore, you not only do not need to bid or ballot for anything this semester, but should not be able to bid for any additional modules/electives. 2. UNLESS you have been granted module exemptions and, thus, have less MCs this semester, you may bid for electives this semester. Please refer to CORS url (linked from this blog) for more details. 3. If you wish to bid for electives but are unsure as to how to bid, you may bring your laptop down to school on 3rd or 4th August 2009 Science Foyer, and look for Sarah, as she will be in school and she can guide you if you need. (but it really isn't difficult ^^") 4. Tutorials for electives must be balloting on a seperate day. Please refer to the schedule at CORS url. 5. In subsequent semesters, you may bid for electives. PART TWO: WEEK 0 EVENTS1. RAG final preparations are up on the intensive level as final pieces are put together and rehearsals everyday to be ready for Rag this coming Saturday, 8 August. Do come down to join in the skill-specific jobs left to do (no more brainless mass work)! 2. MENTOR-MENTEE MEET-UP may be held either at 12noon Monday 3 August 2009, OR 1pm Tuesday 4 August 2009. We apologize for inconveniences caused as it has been difficult to secure a venue for all of you. You will be meeting your mentors (N2s) and going out to have lunch with them and spam them with all your questions or make requests for books or notes. *Lunch will not be provided. 3. FLAG DAY on 4 August. Please report at LT29 at 8am. You will be travelling out in the morning and are to report back to LT29 by 1pm to return the tins. 4. RAG DAY on 8 August. The parade begins at 8-9am at SRC (the stadium) and prepare to feast your eyes on a zestful parade of colors, dances & music! Awards and prizes will be announced 1-2pm the same day. *A complimentary Rag&Flag shirt will only be given if you attend the events. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU GIVE YOUR NAME TO SARAH ONG ON EACH DAY!5. INTER-FACULTY GAMES (IFG) 2009 is coming soon, in the month of September! Join in the following sports: badminton, basketball, bowling, canoe polo, contact rugby(men), floorball, international chess, netball(women), reversi, road race, sepak takraw (men), soccer, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis, touch rugby (women), ultimate frisbee, volleyball, handball, dodgeball, pool, or DOTA! An email will be sent to you with the details. You may also choose to drop us an email at nusnursing@hotmail.com indicating clearly your interest in participating and which sport. Please include if you have background training or not. It is okay if you have no training as training will be given. Regards, Sarah Ong Project Director

FAQs of NUS Nursing Course
Hello Freshies :) To benefit the majority who might have the same questions with regards to any issues to the nursing course, liaison team will publish a series of answers to clear all your doubts to get you prepared for varsity life! :) 1) Do i need to get a laptop/netbook? My peers say "GET THEM!", but i'm pondering about whether to get them now or later...Ans: Not compulsory. It is highly recommended by NUS, but our course doesn't really require them, except for projects, viewing of lecture notes and for your regular net-surfing if you are bored :x For those w/o laptops, you can always use the campus library computers or computer labs. For special rates given to NUS students for the purchase of laptops, you may want to check out the deals during your matriculation fair or visit the IT co-op when sch reopens.2) I know nuts about CORS (Central Online Registration System). Who can i ask help? How do i bid my modules? I'm freaking worried o_O!Ans: Don't worry :). CORS briefing will be available during 31Jul09. For the majority who have no exemption of modules (except for those who grad from poly with nursing dip), all your modules are pre-allocated. You need not bid and stay awake all day to track your bids like what your peers might be doing :p 3) What is IVLE? I have been hearing IVLE IVLE IVLE...can you enlighten me???Ans: Integrated Virtual Learning Environment(IVLE). It is a course management system, viewing your modules, upload your projects, engage in discussion forums, receive notifications from your lecturers, check your results and most importantly, downloading your lecture notes.4) How many modules do i have to face in the 1st semester?Ans: 5 modules. An average student clears 5 modules per semester. i) NUR1111 Contemporary Nursing 1 - The Basics of nursing & geriatric care ii) NUR1104 Professional Issues & Practices - All the theories & history of nursing iii) NUR1109 Healthcare Ethics & Law - Chunks of ethical principles & law issues iv) PY1105 Physiology - How your body system functions v) AY1104 Anatomy - Learning about body structure and fascinating lab sessions
For those with exemption of the above-mentioned modules, you can start to clear some of your GEM (General Education Modules), SS (S'pore Studies) Modules, or UE (Unrestricted Electives). 5) Do i need to purchase textbooks? Like you know, a packing list?Ans: Nah, this is not Hogwarts, you wont have a list of what-to-bring. Whether you wanna buy textbooks, its Your choice :). Certain modules will require you to have a textbook as a reference, while some can just rely on your lecture notes. If you need to buy the textbooks, ask your seniors or wait for lecturer's recommendations (usually will be announced on week 1). Otherwise, go search the library. 6) Where do i purchase textbooks? I saw a bookstore hidden somewhere in the sci block, is it that one?Ans: Yeah, The co-op bookstore under LT27. The best way is to ask around who's got the co-op membership card which entitles one to 5-10% discount. The aunty is very strict on the "non-transferable" rule and in order to save the earth, no plastic bags are given for your purchase. Alternatively, you can purchase it from Clementi bookstore which may be cheaper than in the co-op to your surprise. Remember, books may run out of stock miraculously, and you may have to end up waiting for weeks for it to "be delivered from the States" like what the aunty proclaims. 7) Do we have course package? My friends in Arts Fac had to purchase one and it comes with a myriad of readings, i'm overwhelmed, do we have that as well??Ans: U nlikely. We ain't in Arts. Neither do we have hundreds of readings to catch up nor dozens...maybe just a couple for your pleasure time. 8) When will i know my timetable? I'm an organized person, i have to do part-time tuitions every now & then, i need to get a sense of whats ahead!Ans: Oh dear, you sound pretty packed. All your Sem1 modules are pre-allocated. You will get your timetable on 31 Jul 09 and most probably your tutorial groupings together on the same day. Chill! 9) How is the timetable schedule like in Semester 1? I wanna go home early!!!Ans: Be blessed!!! Friday is your off day :), coz you probably wont have such luxury as you advance... (with the exception of week 1 due to make-up lessons missed on 10 Aug 09 & on 06 Nov 09 for field trip as mentioned below). All classes should end latest by 1800hrs.Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays usually start from 0800hrs for Physiology lectures, that's the earliest lessons start in NUS. And unfortunately or fortunately (for some), it will continue as 0800-1000hrs lecture time in Physiology II (Sem 2) 10) What is going to happen on Matriculation Day 27 Jul 09? Ans: Y ou will need to bring your NRIC & letter of offer and thats when you will officially register yourself as NUS Student. You will get your NUS student matriculation card on that day. If the photo you submitted is not up to their standard, the admin pple will take for you and process it there immediately :p The following events that is taking place simultaneously are:- Application of tertiary ezlink card (if you need to buy concession pass) - Collection of goodie bags by student of office affairs - CCA Fairs - External vendors such as IT companies, Singtel & DBS.11) What is the school term like? I'm so looking forward to year-end holidays :- 13 weeks of study (10 Aug - 13 Nov 09)- 1 week of "recess week" in between for holidays/slacking/revision/mugging or whatever it suits you (21-27 Sep 09)- 1 day of field visit trip to the clinical attachment for Dec (06 Nov 09)- 1 week of reading week (more like catching up whatever you dozed off during those lectures :x) (14-20 Nov 09)- 2 weeks of exams (21 Nov- 04 Dec 09)- 2 weeks of clinical practicum (welcome to reality :)) (07-18 Dec 09)- 3 weeks of holidays (21 Dec 09 - 10 Jan 10)12) Do i need to submit an MC if i'm absent for the day? My teacher used to yell & come after me during those days...Ans: Nah, only if you are absent during tutorials and labs as ATTENDANCE for these (particularly NUR1111, NUR1104, NUR1109) do take up around 5-10% of your final grade.Coming up....MORE FAQs :) if you have any particular questions, drop us an email at nusnursing@Hotmail.com
